I Met A Whitetail Buck On A Trail
I was hiking on a game trail near Ben Geren Park on Fort Chaffee back in November 2008. This area is now known as Chaffee Crossing and is a residential area of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
I spotted this nice 8 point Buck coming toward me. I stood still with my camera up and ready. I waited for the Buck to get closer. He got close before he heard my camera and stopped. He looked at me for a while and then turned and walked away.
If you stand still and don’t move most of the time you can get close to Deer. You need to wait as long as possible before taking a shot. Your camera will make noise and put them on alert.
How I Got The Shot - Whitetail Buck
I was using a Canon EOS 40D with a Canon EF 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens. I was shooting in aperture priority mode (AV) with a shutter speed of 1/250 of a second at f11 and the ISO at 400. White Balance was set on auto. I was using single point, continuous auto focus with evaluative metering.
